Good day Bad day

So I was keeping my fingers crossed for the top I thought I will buy from Bizzarre. And all other good stuff that I planned to buy yesterday. But destiny it seems had other plans for me. It was one of those days for me when things just went wrong all at once. First I didn’t get the right shoe size for my sis. The same brand had another showroom across the road. I always do this, if I don’t get the right size in any of the showroom I visit the other one across the road & get the right size. But yesterday the oter showroom had everything to offer me except that one stupid slipper of my choice.

After that I checked the Bizzarre showroom and they had everything in store except that one top I was dreaming about the whole time. Great…

Later I thought I will try the local market area of where I stay and it took 45 minutes in total to get an auto rikshaw. Now days I get strong pangs to start driving again. Thanx to the weird attitude shown by Delhi Autowalas these days. In between all this boyfeee was on phone and finally when I got an auto the traffic was something I have never witnessed before. Where is Delhi going ppl?? How do you all manage to travel long distances when it took me an hour to cover a distance of 8 km??

The only positive point was boyfee assuring me that today he will take me out for shopping and my bro in law postponing his travel plans till next week.. So I still have time left to indulge in my shopping sprees and the icing on the cake is without being in a hurry… yippeeee all is not lost tintin…you lose some you win some…Haapy Shopping Ahead… :)

On a Spree!!

Last week I was on a movie spree. Saw Bachnaa Ae Hasino & Singh Is King back to back. Liked BAH much more than SIK. Bah is more funny & you connect somewhere to the story as guys like Raj are around us all the time. The only thing doesn’t happen in real lives is happy ending. Well almost most of the times. So besides me relating to the storyline there was an added attraction of watching swiss locales ( how I wish to go their on my honeymoon :) ) and Ranbir Kapoor of course. Even though not my type this guy looks cool and no doubt is a strong contender of the No.1 race in Bollywood.. Sadly I can’t say the same stuff about Deepika Padukone. Initially I liked her in OSO but now I think something is wrong. It is going the same way, as my opinion of Aishwarya Rai. Without any reason I have never liked Ash. Even though she is beautiful I felt there was always something missing. Minissha for sure never looked like an 18 yr old. Of course, Ranbir looked best opposite Bipasha. The gal looks hot. Even though she is the GF of my current heart throb John Abraham and the object of my J factor. I still like that gal and think both John & Bipasha look great together.

Coming back to SIK. Somehow I didn’t liked the movie as much as I thought I will. May be because my expectations went higher & higher after reading the reviews. But Somehow the movie is a “khichdi” of everything and as it goes to many cooks spoil the food!! When you watch Akki you expect some kind of action but the high point of this movie was the parachute chasing a bike sequence which actually went to Sonu Sood. Akki only followed in the footsteps of Gandhigiri and did not had much to do. But he is good in comedy no doubt. Music was one of the high points of SIK.

Coming back to this week, I might go to watch “ Wanted” tonight as boyfee’s sweetheart Angelina stars in the movie. Asking him to take me out for a movie is a task but for “Wanted” all work, Stress , managing time etc excuses were forgotten & he is as ready as ever. Ofcourse hez going out on a date with Angie the only sour part would be Tintin accompanying boyfee… poor he…;)

Btw, I was also planning to watch Phoonk & Mumbai Meri jaan with collegues. Phoonk only because of the fun factor involved in watching a horror flick wid frnds in a theatre

Also I need to indulge myself in a bit of shopping.. Its been long since I resolved to control my shopoholic self. Need to buy 2 pair of slippers for my sis who is in US rite now but have some liking for Indian pair of footwears & UG’s. Since brother in law leaves for US on 2nd I need to finish it before time. Poor Tintin is only planning to buy a white top from Bizzare which is ruling her mind from the past one week. Tried resisting for the 1 whole week but finally had to give in to the temptation. Just hope it fits to the T. Fingers crossed.. More to follow later.. gotta go.. cheers :)

Ruling our lives!!

Its a ritual in my home. The moment i get back from work my tv gets switched on and i continue doing my usual stuff..Actually i take pride in introducing myself as one of those BALAJI TELEFILMS regular.(cudn't think of missing a single episode of those ekta kapoor serials) But now i am hooked to NDTV Imagine. The channel has got a breeze of fresh air into the lives of serial freaks like me. And talking of television I got my idea of writing something about those long forgotten serials which I used to adore as a child.

It was the year 1982 when my ma & both my sis convinced dad to get a TV & the convincing factor was the Asian Games. So here we brought home our very first TV an Uptron B&W television. The Ad for this brand went like…”What’s on?? It Uptron..” It even had a wooden shutter in the front.

Here is a list of what I grew up with watching on Indian Television:

Chitrahaar: Every Wednesday and Friday at 8 pm was like ultimate tv time for us. Not to be missed at any cost. I remember my sis used to maintain a notebook where all songs of chitrahaar was listed so that we don’t miss watching movies on our rented VCR (The story about our rented VCR days will follow later)

Rangoli: It was a reason to get up early morning on Sundays

Vikram Vetaal: I liked it lot as a child. Vetaal at that time was scary but now I think he was kindaa cute :)

Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi: Hilarious comedy. Opening lines went something like..
Yeh jo hai zindagi thodi khatti thodi meethiThodi (something) thodi (something)....Kuch alag hi hai mazaaaaa
Malgudi Days: A Kid named Swami (looking very cute in Dhoti & Blazer) and the title song –“taana na taana na na” & ofcourse R K Laxman’s sketches.

Sigma: India’s first sci-fi serial. This serial was far ahead from its time during those days. Serial was about a space station called Sigma. I guess everyone who remember this serial will also be remembering that HELIUM attack episode too. And something in black colour & the shape of pumping heart looked yuk…
Udaan: Based on Kiran Bedi’s life, Kavita chaudhary (Lalita ji of surf) was lead actress and serial was quite popular. Story of a girl’s journey to become an IPS officer. Shekhar Kapoor played her love interest.
Simhasan Batteesi: About King Vikramaditya’s sinhaasan & the 32 stories being told by battis putliyan.

Appu Aur Pappu: About a kid and his elephant friend.

Mulla Naeeruddin: It was about Mulla Naseeruddin( Raghubir Yadav), set in 13th century in Baghdad and Zohra Sehgal used to narrate in this.

The Discovery of India: Roshan Seth used to play Nehru’s role and even though I cudn’t understand a word of what he was saying I used to watch it.
Mr Yogi: Mohan Gokhale plays Mr. Yogi who comes to India in search of a bride. Om Puri plays Sutradhar who directs the story of Yogi. The story revolves around Yogi and his search for a perfect bride. Hilarious.

Flop show: Jaspal Bhatti was just tooo good. Hilarious

Karamchand: Pankaj kapoor as karamchand (with carrot) and Sushmita mukerjee as kitty.
World this Week : Pranoy Roy at his best. This was a no nonsence show where I as a kid was not allowed to speak and we watched this show with Dad in complete pin drop silence.

Surabhi: Sidhdharth Kak and Renuka Shahane were hosting this program. Renuka’s hair cut and Colgate smile were quite popular.

Thehqiqat: Better recognized as “Tehqueeqat, yeh hai tehqeeqat”. Vijay Anand as Sam ‘D Souza and his assistant Saurabh Shukla.

Vyomkesh Bakshi: With a Bengali background Rajat kapoor was Vyomkesh bakshi in dhoti and kurta and K K Raina as his assistant.

Ramayan and Mahabharat: There was Curfew like situation on Sunday mornings when these two epics were telecasted.. Dara singh as Hanuman,Arun Govil as Ram & Deepika as Sita were worshipped in common indian households. Harish Bhimani’s voice as “main samay hoon” made great impact in Mahabharat.

Chandrakanta: Started very well but lost interest after introduction of too many characters and complicated story. But Kroor Singh doing Yakkkkuu was like Amrish Puri saying “Mogambo khush hua.....”

Phir Wohi Talaash: I can recall only Nilima Azim playing a bubbly girl. The story was a small town boy comes to metro and falls in love with a rich and sophisticated girl.

Kille ka Rahasya: Don’t recall much, but I used to close my eyes when a big Punja was coming closer to camera.

Mungerilal ke haseen sapne: Talented Raghuvir Yaadav as Mungherilal used to see dreams of a person whichever attracts him.

Daayre: Ahem! Ahem! Me as a kid worked in this serial since the shooting was in our school and the crew needed 2-3 kids..That was my 5 minutes claim to fame & everyone back home watched this serial. :)

Shahruk’s Fauji & Circus
Doosra kewal : It was about a son who is lost and shahrukh made appearances in between

Shanti & Swabhimaan: Ma used to tell me the story of episodes that I missed while I was in hostel. :)

Junglebook: Remember that song ”jungle jungle baat chali hai pataa chala hai, chaddi pehen ke phool khila hai..”

Danu Danasur: “Chipkali ke nana hai, chipkali ke hai sasur..”

Spider Man: Spiderman – spiderman friendly neighbourhood spiderman He can do whatever a spider can

He Man & The Master Of The Universe

Ek Do Teen Char: “Ek Do Teen Char. Charo milkar saath chale toh karde chamatkar”.

Indradhanush: It was a story about a boy who discovers a time Machine ,and with help of this time machine he travels ancient period as well as in future.

Honi-Anhoni: This was based on unnatural true stories .I remember watching each & every episode with a pumpimg heart & with half eyes closed.

Pachpan Khambe Laal Deewarein: With Aman Verma and Meeta Vashisth. It was about a young man falling in love with a woman who was older than him and was a professor cum hostel warden.

Kashish: It had Sudesh Berry and Malvika Tiwari. A love story of a director falling for his leading lady. The director is shown very egoistic.

Farmaan: Kawaljit & Deepika Deshpande’s kiss gave a controversial twist to this serial and added to it’s popularity. May be the age I was in when these serials started made me very fond of them. :)

The ones I remember watching on television but can’t recall much:
Humlog: This serial dealt with the everyday lives of people like Badki, manjali, chutki, Lallu & Nanhe. In the end Ashok Kumar used to sum up the episode.

Buniyaad : All I remember is Master ji, Veerawali & Lajo ji

Nukkad: Dilip Dhawan, Pavan Malhotra & khopdi.

Lucy show: An English comedy used to come on Wednesday I guess.
Nupur: Lead actor was Sudesh Berry and had background of classical dance & music

Mrignayani: Pallavi Joshi

Wagle Ki Duniya: Anjan srivastava and Bharti Achrekar in a light hearted comedy

Humraahi: Manohar shyaam joshi and Himani Shivpuri.

Neenv: About school & students

Chunauti: It was about drugs

Show Theme: About movies

Muzrim haazir ho: Hun huna.. hun huna..hun huna re…hun huna!!

Intezaar: Station master Pavan Malhotra

Tamas: A bus or a truck carrying people may be at the time of partition & Deepa Sahi
Tipu sultan: All I remember is Sanjay Khan as Tipu Sultan & Shahbaaz Khan as Hyder Ali.

Gul Gulshan Gulfam: Based on a family in Kashmir valley, I first saw boathouses in this serial. But I still remember the song “Muskurate subah ki aur gungunaate shaam ki, yeh kahaani gul ki hai, gulshan ki hai, gulfaam ki”
Turning Point: Hosted by Girish karnard or Naseer.
Kakaji kahein: Om Puri
Krishi Darshan & Chaupal: Never watched these two.

And at last some irritating things on doordarshan…
The boards showing Rookavat ke liye khed hai.?? & Nritya ka Akhil Bhartiya Karyakram...

Around these programmes my world used to revolve. In short, the serials of those days had good story line, stellar performances ,fewer commercials and most important a reasonable duration.

Those good old days…Somebody plz tell Ekta Kapoor to watch any one of them and I m sure she will come up with a new series called ‘Kahaani Hamaare Television Ki” :)
